If x³ = 27. What is the value of x ?

Concept of Area and Applications

Area is the extent of a 2-dimensional surface enclosed within a boundary.

We cannot say it is a 2 dimensional object because all objects in real life are 3 dimensional unless we consider time as the 4th dimension, which will probably cause everyone to be confused...

Application in real life includes calculation of the area of a floor and the area of a wall to determine how many tiles to use.

Concept of Area

Area is the space on any 2-dimensional surfaces that have length and breadth and the unit of measurement is usually in square centimetres or square metres.

Application of area :
(1) number of tiles needed to tile a floor with given certain dimensions.
(2) finding the surface area of objects like boxes.
1) Area is the amount of space within an enclosed 2D object.
2) Example for real-life situations: When buying paint to paint a wall

Area Definition

The space within a given region.
Area is 2 dimensional measurement, in contrast to length which is1-dimensional measurement and volume which is 3-dimensional measurement.

When we purchase apartments and properties, one of the most important considerations is the floor area (built-in area).

When we paint our house, we quite often have to consider how many tins of paint are needed to paint the walls.

Comments on Area

Amount of space taken up by a 2d figure.

Find the maximum possible number of pieces of 10 cm by 10 cm paper to cover up a noticeboard with dimensions 4.5 m by 3 m.

What is the difference in area for your EL textbook and Maths textbook?

What measurements would you need? What do you need to do with the measurements you have? How much difference is there? Is there any relationship between area and weight?

Activity 7

Area defines the space bounded by line segments and curves.

Real life examples include floor plans.

Area

Area is the amount of space within a pre-determined boundary (in 2 dimensions).

Egs. in real life: amount of paper needed to make a box, amount of grass within fences

Activity 7

Area means the space occupied by an object and it is 2 dimensional.
Real-life applications: area in floor plans, prices of tiles.

Area / Application

Area = L x B

Application - Painting

Concept of Area

Amount of 2D space taken up.

Real-life application: Maximum area with minimum perimeter. Packaging; cost-saving...
